AVG

Batting average — hits divided by at-bats.

What AVG means

The traditional batting-average measure: hits ÷ at-bats. Doesn't reward walks or extra bases, so on its own it overrates slap hitters and underrates power.

How AVG is calculated

AVG = H / AB

What counts as a good AVG

Higher is better — roughly .220 is poor, .250 average, .280 good, and .310 or better elite.
