xwOBA
Expected wOBA — what wOBA "should" be based on each ball's exit velo + launch angle.
What xwOBA means
Statcast model: replaces actual outcomes with expected outcomes inferred from quality of contact. Strips defense and ballpark luck out of the picture, so the gap between wOBA and xwOBA points to over- or under-performance due for regression.
What counts as a good xwOBA
Higher is better — roughly .290 is poor, .320 average, .350 good, and .380 or better elite.
