Magic

Combined team wins and rival losses still needed to clinch — 0 means clinched.

What Magic means

A countdown, not a record. Every win by the club and every loss by the rival it is measured against knocks one off, so a game the two play against each other is worth two. The rival is the one that can still finish with the most wins — the number says nothing without naming it. A division magic number is measured against the best chaser in the division; a Wild Card magic number against the club sitting one place outside the last berth, since a wild card requires finishing ahead of all but two of the field rather than all of it.

How Magic is calculated

Magic = (rival wins + rival games remaining) − team wins + 1
