WHIP
Walks + hits per inning pitched — baserunners allowed per inning.
What WHIP means
Crude but useful: how often opposing hitters reach base. League average ~1.30. < 1.10 is elite.
How WHIP is calculated
WHIP = (BB + H) / IP
What counts as a good WHIP
Lower is better — roughly 1.4 is poor, 1.3 average, 1.2 good, and 1.05 or better elite.
