CSW%

Called strikes plus whiffs as a share of all pitches thrown.

What CSW% means

A single number for "how often did this pitch beat the hitter, either way?" — it counts the strikes he took and the ones he missed. Less noisy than whiff% because it uses every pitch as the denominator rather than only swings, which makes it stabilise fast enough to read start to start. Pitcher league median ~27%; 30%+ is front-line.

How CSW% is calculated

(called strikes + whiffs) / pitches

What counts as a good CSW%

Higher is better — roughly .242 is poor, .269 average, .288 good, and .305 or better elite.
